Making Natural Connections Project (23/24)

It is well documented that taking part in creative activities and learning new skills can support positive mental health and wellbein g The practical and creative nature activities you will be involved in as part of this project will help you develop new skills, knowledge, and understanding to improve the quality of your health and wellbeing through spending time in nature. The Making Natural Connections project is 10 weeks long and we will support you in attending at least one course and also a volunteering activity as part of the project . The project will have at most 15 participants, and you will be supported by our staff throughout. We will have a 1-2-1 session with you where we will get to know you, complete some forms, and you will choose the activities that you would like to get involved with. There will be an introduction session where all participants will meet and we will finalise any paperwork , introduce you to the site , and make sure that you have the information you need for attending sessions. You will attend the course/courses and volunteering activitity that you have selected on the days and weeks that they run. At the end of the project you will have another 1-2-1 session with us and as part of that we can help you decide what you'd like to do next. The project will start the week of 22nd April and finish the week of 1s t July. There will be a break the week of 27th May. Course Aims - What you will learn: Within th e duration of the project there are three courses running, and you can choose to do up to two of them: Inspring Children Through Nature (Tuesday 30th Apr - 21st May 10:00am - 1:30pm) Nature In Your Neighbourhood (Monday 3rd Jun - 1st Jul 10:00am - 4:00pm not on 24th Jun) Woodland Wellbeing ( Tuesday 4h Jun - 25 t h Jun 10:00 am - 1 :00 pm ) How you will be taught, and your understanding checked: All tools and materials required to achieve the course goals will be provided by us. The tutor will demonstrate techniques and the safe use of any tool s that students will be using. Students will then attempt to do the activity themselves with tutor support. Students are expected to attend all sessions, and if they can't make it to inform the class tutor or centre as soon as possible. Students are expected to record their learning and progress with the support of their tutor. Google Classroom will be used to support students learning. Access to this will be sent to you and we will support you to use it. Your tutor will work with you to understand what you know already and what you want to achieve. They will agree a learning plan with you to work towards. Your tutor will talk to you about your progress and will give you feedback to help you to continue to develop your skills and knowledge. Each course will be a taught in a small group of no more than ten and you will be fully supported by your tutor. The sessions will take place outside or in our roundhouse . Progression - What you will be able to do next: On successful completion of the course, we will talk to you about your progress and achievements and we will help you to decide what to do next, for example Continue your studies and work towards a formal qualification Start to learn another subject Look for work or volunteering opportunities Use your skills in your everyday life You will also choose a volunteering activity to try from the different sessions that we run which could either be : Practical Team (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday 9:15 am - 3 :30 pm ) - usually not at Hollybush but we provide transport. Green Gym (Wednesdays 10:00 am - 12:00 am or 1:30 pm - 3 :30 pm ) Oakwood Hall (Thursdays 10:00am - 2:00pm) You will join one of our exisitng volunteering groups, join in and help to make a difference to the communities we work in.
