Course Aims – What you will learn

This Digital Skills course is aimed at supported learners and intents to teach basic IT skills to get set for world of digital technology. Our supported curriculum offering includes many courses but the overall intent of these courses is to build supported learners’ confidence, help to develop relationships and reduce social isolation, build social and life skills and become more independent in everyday life. This course will teach how to log onto a computer, creating an email account as well as using email to send and reply to messages including attaching files to the message. Additionally, it will teach basic word processing and how to use a search engine effectively. It will also teach the students about staying safe whilst online, using 2-Step Verification and shopping online with a bank card. Our intention with this course is to provide a safe, inclusive, and relaxed environment for anyone in our community with supported needs who wants to learn or improve on their digital skills.

How you will be taught, and your understanding checked

Your tutor will work with you to understand your comfort level at the start of the course and helping agree a learning plan for you to get the most out of this course. In class, your lessons will be delivered through a mix of whole class demonstrations, individual projects, and open discussions to encourage the sharing of ideas and communication: all supported by your tutor. Your tutor will set various projects to assess your understanding and implementation of the theory and techniques taught. Your tutor will encourage you to develop your confidence in creativity through a range of situations and provide feedback to ensure you are getting the most from the course.

Progression – What you will be able to do next

Following the successful completion of this course, we intend for each student to be able to maintain their improved sense of self-esteem and wellbeing and encourage them to further pursue their own digital skills and practice safe online habits. Students will be able to enrol on a more advanced Digital Skills course to further develop their IT skills. Alternatively, students could enrol on other arts and crafts courses to continue developing their confidence and improving their wellbeing through learning new skills and socially engaging with other likeminded students.
