Wellness Oil Painting
Course Aims – What you will learn
This course is a part of our Health and Well Being curriculum designed to provide a wide variety of techniques that enable adults to manage their mental health and well being through the learning of new skills and healthy outlets. It is well known that taking part in artistic activites supports positive mental health and well being. You will be taught colour theory and basic techniques of oil painting before being supported in composing your pieces. Additionally, you will be exposed to the works of historic oil painters to assess and be inspired by their use of the medium, with an emphasis on practical applications of oil paint.
How you will be taught, and your understanding checked
Your tutor will work with you to understand your comfort level at the start of the course and helping agree a learning plan for you to get the most out of this course. In class, your lessons will be delivered through a mix of whole class demonstrations, individual projects, and open discussions to encourage the sharing of ideas and communication: all supported by your tutor. Your tutor will set various small projects to assess your understanding and implementation of the theory and techniques taught as well provide artworks to assess and analyse to understand why certain decisions were made in their production. Your tutor will encourage you to develop your confidence in creativity through a range of situations and provide feedback to ensure you are getting the most from the course.
Progression – What you will be able to do next
Following the successful completion of this course, we intend for each student to be able to maintain their improved sense of wellbeing and encourage them to further pursue their own creativity. Students could enrol onto another of our Health and Well Being courses next term and explore other mediums which will broaden their artistic knowledge and skillsets whilst developing their confidence and improving their wellbeing through learning new skills, artistic mediums and socially engaging with other likeminded students.
