Mindful Jewellery - Mixed Media

Course Aims – What you will learn

This course is a part of our Health and Well Being curriculum designed to provide a wide variety of techniques that enable adults to manage their mental health and wellbeing through the learning of new skills and healthy outlets. It is well known that taking part in arts activites support positive mental health and wellbeing. On this course you will learn the traditional mindful art of jewellery making in a relaxed inclusive and social space. Develop your creativity by exploring a range of different materials which you will use to make your own items of jewellery. This course is for students who wish to learn a new way to aid their health and wellbeing and who are new to jewellery making. Our intention with this course is to provide a safe, supported opportunity for those with an interest in jewellery, or crafting generally, develop their confidence by teaching them to express their creativity through a variety of projects that will encourage their experimentation with jewellery making.

How you will be taught, and your understanding checked

Your tutor will work with you to understand your comfort level at the start of the course and helping agree a learning plan for you to get the most out of this course. In class, your lessons will be delivered through a mix of whole class demonstrations, individual projects, and open discussions to encourage the sharing of ideas and communication: all supported by your tutor. Your tutor will set various projects to assess your understanding and implementation of the theory and techniques taught. Your tutor will encourage you to develop your confidence in creativity through a range of situations and provide feedback to ensure you are getting the most from the course.

Progression – What you will be able to do next

Following the successful completion of this course, we intend for each student to be able to maintain their improved sense of self-confidence and wellbeing and encourage them to further pursue their own creativity. We recommend students who successfully complete this course enrol onto another of our jewellery course to further develop their skillset and improve their self-esteem. Alternatively, students could explore other arts and craft mediums and disciplines which will broaden their artistic knowledge and skillsets whilst developing their confidence and improving their wellbeing through learning new skills, artistic mediums and socially engaging with other likeminded students.
